Here is why that matters.

More Indians read self-help books than can access an actual therapist!!

India has one psychiatrist for every 150,000 people. The WHO minimum is one for every 10,000. Against that shortage, the self-help book market keeps growing every year, easy to buy, easy to read alone, no waitlist, no appointment.

This is not a comment on the books themselves. Many of them offer real insight.

The problem is what they have quietly become a substitute for.

Reading about a nervous system response is not the same as regulating one!

Understanding a pattern intellectually is not the same as having a professional or a practitioner help you shift it in your body!

A book can give you language for what is wrong. It cannot sit with you while you actually process it.

For a country with this large a treatment gap, the self-help industry has filled a space that healthcare infrastructure failed to.

That is not a failure of the readers. It is a signal of how little real access exists!
